I do remember her as a strong girl I wanted to be more like... It was fascinating to compare three English translations side-by-side. Like you, I prefer Nunnally's version. Just goes to show, however, that no two translations will necessarily be alike!Lisa Carterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00069726404084726790noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9122969726151027865.post-31194937979230829312012-05-13T23:15:22.813+01:002012-05-13T23:15:22.813+01:00I loved Pippi Longstocking when I was young mainly...I loved Pippi Longstocking when I was young mainly because of her odd and fascinating talk. It looked like she has her own world with original and unknown language. I admit shamefully that I have never wondered how translators managed to trancreate all that to different languages. Thank you for this insightful post, I really enjoyed reading it.Aleksandrahttp://linguistblog.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9122969726151027865.post-89988494360941112422012-05-13T21:39:52.980+01:002012-05-13T21:39:52.980+01:00Glad you enjoyed it!Glad you enjoyed it!Rachel Wardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06218353720195613236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9122969726151027865.post-68866942700856679472012-05-13T21:39:29.458+01:002012-05-13T21:39:29.458+01:00Lottie and Lisa was the basis for the Parent Trap ...Lottie and Lisa was the basis for the Parent Trap but it was by Erich Kästner (Emil and the Detectives). It's lovely to share favourites with your own children - the boys are sadly resistant to anything I want to read them though. :(Rachel Wardhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06218353720195613236noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9122969726151027865.post-32757386597606477962012-05-13T19:55:18.711+01:002012-05-13T19:55:18.711+01:00Another one of my childhood faves - and I believe ...Another one of my childhood faves - and I believe her 'Lottie and Lisa' was the original 'parent trap' story. I have just read Pippi to my hearly 6 year old. They are fantastic stories.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11838426651793558151noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-9122969726151027865.post-42119306128693190492012-05-13T15:50:55.061+01:002012-05-13T15:50:55.061+01:00I'm not very good with languages, so any trans...I'm not very good with languages, so any translating I've done has been to order from a restaurant menu, but I enjoyed this post. Never would have thought how hard it must be to translate something like Pippi's nonsensical poem. Thanks for sharing!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
